CANNIBAL GALAXY: a love story

new work is a bitch.

Creating Key Art for the new play Cannibal Galaxy: a love story was a CHALLENGE which is a polite rephrasing of this section title. There was a real want to express the pure poetry of the script, and that’s not the easiest thing to communicate emotively in visual design. Here is a selection of the initial sketched ideas, because you need to know just how far afield I wandered in search of some kind of design truth.

design murder.

These are the two sketches that resonated with the stakeholders — they loved the ‘two halves of one heart’ and the drama of ‘space burning away to reveal something new.’ The task became stitching these two concepts together (très difficult, it definitely killed me a little and then bled my corpse dry).

here i am in iteration hell looking for any kind of design truth.

like jesus, i rise again and make it work. somewhere Tim Gunn and RuPaul are both smiling.
